In my bead work and painting, I find genuine inspiration in the language
of symbols, color, patterns and in the power of beauty. In addition to
the magic that lies within every gemstone, pattern and hand crafted bead
- there are unmistakable designs, inspired by historical symbolism,
nature and story.
I am a lifelong student of art, painting, design, metaphysics and poetry.
When I was 14 I had my first Show at a starving artist show in San Antonio, Tx. It was wonderful. Watercolor still has a special place in my paint box.. Now I also work in oils, acrylic, collage and gouache.
I feel very called to do this work, especially the beads. 20 years ago and completely out of no where, I quit my job at a beautiful used book store. I decided to paint 1500 beads, make some jewelry and start doing shows. I did live fairs and events from San Antonio, Austin through Texas and New Mexico. It went well very until I completely burned out on the show circuit. I have not done a show since.
I had the very good fortune of moving to the beautiful Santa Cruz which has become my home. Now I do all work in my home studio. I sell locally, by custom order and through my online stores Etsy and Artfire.
Thought and intention influences every bead and piece of jewelry I make. In addition to my online clients, proudly, my work has worn by John Anderson, Robert Plant. The former president of NOW. She once placed a custom order for a necklace made only of painted beads with little dancing maidens on each bead - naked-! It is that easy to get something entirely personal. There are no other beads like them.
In 2011 my life-mate began as a fellow adventurer in this work and offers his unique use of archetypal symbols and a more darkly romantic aesthetic to our work. He also is great when designing uni-sex items.
My Blog ( http://blog.whiteowldesigns.com ) titled "A Maker's Day" has many reference posts, resources and thoughts on art and the muse from the every day grind to the more late night "think too much" confessions. Follow me as I bring my work to this online world and grow my business new and fresh. I am excited and excited to show you really cool beads!
